5 Day Internship Program on 𝐄𝐒𝐒𝐄𝐍𝐓𝐈𝐀𝐋𝐒 𝐎𝐅 𝐌𝐄𝐏 𝐃𝐄𝐒𝐈𝐆𝐍

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Younus College of Polytechnic in Thalachira recently conducted a comprehensive five-day internship program focused on the "Essentials of MEP Design" (Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing). This program was designed to provide students with a thorough understanding of the principles and practices involved in MEP systems design, which is crucial in modern building projects. Throughout the internship, students engaged in a combination of theoretical discussions and practical applications. The first day introduced the fundamentals of MEP design, covering the roles and responsibilities of engineers in this multidisciplinary field. Participants learned about the key components of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, and how they interact within a building. As the program progressed, students delved deeper into specific areas. They explored mechanical systems, including HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning), learning how to calculate load requirements and design efficient systems. In electrical design, students gained insights into circuit design, lighting systems, and power distribution, with a focus on safety and sustainability. The plumbing module emphasized the design of water supply and drainage systems, teaching students about effective layout planning and the importance of compliance with local regulations. Hands-on sessions allowed participants to work with relevant software tools, enabling them to create and analyze MEP design models. Collaborative projects encouraged teamwork and problem-solving, simulating real-world engineering scenarios. By the end of the five-day internship, students had developed a solid foundation in MEP design principles, preparing them for future roles in the industry. The program not only enhanced their technical skills but also fostered a deeper understanding of the integral role MEP systems play in construction and building management. Overall, the internship was a valuable experience that equipped students with the knowledge and confidence needed to excel in the field of electrical and electronics engineering.
