The three-day internship on "Essentials of AutoCAD" conducted for fourth-semester students at the Department of Civil Engineering at Bishop Jerome Institute, Kollam, was an enriching experience that equipped students with essential skills in one of the most widely used design software in engineering. On the first day, students were introduced to the AutoCAD interface and its basic functionalities. They learned fundamental drawing tools and techniques, focusing on creating simple 2D shapes and understanding coordinate systems. This hands-on approach allowed students to become familiar with the software and its capabilities. The second day delved deeper into more advanced features. Students practiced creating detailed architectural drawings and site plans, applying layers, and utilizing different line types and styles. The instructors emphasized the importance of precision in drafting, guiding students through exercises that reinforced their skills and confidence in using the software. By the third day, participants engaged in comprehensive projects that required them to combine their newly acquired skills. They worked on real-world scenarios, such as designing a small building layout or site development plan. This practical application solidified their understanding and allowed them to see the relevance of AutoCAD in civil engineering. Throughout the internship, students received continuous support and feedback from instructors, fostering an interactive learning environment. By the end of the three days, participants left with a strong foundation in AutoCAD, preparing them for future academic projects and professional endeavors in civil engineering. The experience not only enhanced their technical skills but also instilled a greater appreciation for the design process in their field.
